...the Rest of the Story

So, there I was, standing at the bathroom sink brushing my teeth and looking out the window... I said to my husband, "Do you see what I see?!?" When he answered "YES" we practically fell over each other looking for our cameras!

the Native American Connection

"How many are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures."
Psalm 104:24

Throughout history and many native cultures worldwide, seeing an albino animal of any kind was sacred. It stirred the soul to recognize the greatness of Creation and, most importantly, the CREATOR.

Native Americans, in particular, saw the white deer as a sign of prophecy from the Great Spirit and, when seen in everyday life (rather than a dream or vision), it was a call to gather together in fellowship and contemplate the deeper meaning of such a sight.

How rare is an albino deer?

According to the website: https://protectthewhitedeer.com/albino-questions
"Exceedingly rare! In fact, the chances of an albino deer being born are about 1 in 20,000, according to John Bates, Wisconsin Northwoods naturalist and co-author of White Deer: Ghosts of the Forest. Other sources say the odds are closer to 1 in 100,000.  Suffice it to say…if you ever see a white deer, you’re one of the lucky few."

And, in the fall of 2013, the Southern Utes of CO protected a white fawn on their reservation, saying:

An animal like this is a rarity anywhere,” said tribal elder Alden Naranjo Jr., who provided the cultural perspective to the council prior to its decision. “Something like this that is once in a lifetime … has a very high spiritual significance to it.”

“The Creator has given us this gift, this animal, so we need to protect it,” Councilman Alex S. Cloud said."  https://www.sudrum.com/culture/2013/11/22/tribal-council-extends-special-protection-to-rare-white-deer-spotted-on-reservation/
